Singer-songwriter Paul Kim is back with his first solo album!
The music video for the artist’s meaningful title track ‘The Road‘ was released on September 27. Check it out below!
The beginning of ‘The Road‘ sees Paul Kim‘s gentle voice paired with a piano accompaniment. Despite the accompaniment being relatively simple, the gentle use of minor chords creates a wistful atmosphere. As the song approaches the chorus, a guitar and an orchestral backing are added, slowly building the intensity. Paul Kim‘s voice is perfect for the song’s pleading lyrics, expressing the fear of not living up to expectations and being left behind as everyone else’s lives continue to move on.
The lyrics “the road I’m afraid of, but I should walk on” at the climax of the song are sure to resonate with listeners, as everyone has felt the fear of moving into the future at some point in their lives. In an interview with Korean news site No Cut News, Paul Kim described the song as reflecting the feelings he experienced during his mid-twenties when he was unsure if he would ever get the chance to debut.
The beautiful song ‘The Road‘ is complemented by an equally beautiful music video. Filmed with a continuously moving camera, the illusion of a one-take video is created. The music video for ‘The Road‘ begins in black and white, matching the pensive mood created by the music. From the second verse on colour is added to the clip, matching the increased intensity of the piece. Ending with Paul Kim sitting in front of his accompanying orchestra and pianist draws the viewer’s attention to the beauty of the music itself.
Paul Kim‘s first solo album ‘Part. 1 The Road‘ contains five songs, and expresses his personal story so far. What did you think of ‘The Road‘?
