The name “Pentagon” has been around for quite a while now, but just recently Cube Entertainment revealed the debut date for their newest boy group!
On September 30th, Cube uploaded a black-and-white image confirming Pentagon’s debut date as October 10th at Midnight KST. Previously, the 10 members participated in survival show, “Pentagon Maker,” for a shot at debut.
In anticipation of their debut, the group started to release some very unique teasers in the form of Webtoons– or as they call it, “Pentoons.” Following the release of the Pentoons were individual teaser images of the members as their Pentoon characters. You can find the related teasers here, and the others in subsequent articles.
October 1st saw the release of the first issue of the Pentoons, titled “Start Over 01.” Three members featured in this episode- Hong Seok, E’Dawn and Yeo One– with each of them searching for what makes them truly happy.
Watch the Pentoon here:
Hong Seok is introduced as a “book worm” who can’t seem to find happiness with his interests anymore. Known as “The Living Library,” it seems that even with his intelligence and love for books, he’s looking for something more.
E’Dawn follows next with his search for happiness. He has found that his happiness doesn’t lie with his money. “I’m tired of living the way that adults tell me to,” is what he says, and despite his moniker of ” Golden Spoon,” he might actually be onto to something there.
Last to feature was Yeo One, who goes by the description “Who Cares About Grades?” Discarding his evidently low test scores, he concludes that he won’t find happiness in good grades.
Episode two of the Pentoon, titled “Start Over 02“, introduced two more members- Hui and Yan An. Both of them expresses their desire to find happiness through getting rich and choosing a new path respectively. Hui is introduced with the description “Need to Make it Rich,” and Yan An with, “First Place Life That Feels Like Shackles“.
Watch the second Pentoon here:
Hui talks about school and his part-time job tiring him out. On the other hand, Yan An looks less than pleased with the academic award he receives. Yan An’s frames translate as follows:
Frame 5: “I just studied like normal, so I’m happy to be receiving this award. Thank you.”
Frame 6: “I’m sick and tired of pretending to be happy.”
Frame 7: “This is so frustrating, I want to give it all up and do something else.”
So what do you think of Pentagon’s unique concept? Does it remind you a little of the drama “W“?
