On August 8th, rookie girl group PURPLE KISS made their first comeback with the music video for their title track, ‘Zombie’. It comes off their 2nd mini album, ‘HIDE & SEEK’ containing a total of six tracks. This comeback comes approximately 6 months after their March debut. Debuting with the lead single, ‘PONZONA’, the RBW Entertainment act gave us deep and rich vocals, rarer in the view of 4th generation girl groups. Coming from the same company as vocal powerhouses, MAMAMOO, this is no surprise. They shook fans worldwide with the music video attaining over 20 million views.
Lyrically, the track talks about chasing after a beloved as like a zombie, asking them to try and hide while the singers seek. Over a funky pop beat, the pre-chorus jolts the song into different directions with trap drums momentarily making their presence heard. This transitions nicely with a guitar riff to the disco fun chorus. The repetitive singing and elongation of the B- sound in ‘Zombie’ is an earworm that will retain with listeners for days.

PURPLE KISS ‘ZOMBIE’ MV:
This time, the septet demonstrate their interpretation of a brighter concept whilst keeping their dark sensibilities from debut. We see first with the plaid outfits, commonly associated with girl groups. Here, they are mixed with black shirts, slight grudge and chunky boots. The sets are lit enough to see the members but not hyper-saturating. Plot wise, the girls appear to like zombies. Ordering from a restaurant specializing in brains, a hoard of real zombies chases them around to fight for their share. By the end though, appetites filled, the girls throw a dance party with the undead. The choreography looks sharp as the group display charismatic and focused expressions throughout.
