Rain‘s recent controversies due to his celebrity status in the army have caused many future idol recruits to rethink their decision upon joining the army as a celebrity recruit.
Many celebrity recruits in the army have been accused of getting special treatment due to their popular status.
“Three of the members have to go to the army right now. They are considering going to the army and not as a celebrity recruit. It’s not even that celebrity recruits have it easy, but taking that position is controversial and there are many pitfalls in doing so. They’re going to have a hard time hearing things such as, ‘they just have it easy’ at the army.” stated the agency of a famous idol group.
Another label of a solo male artist stated, “We don’t know what branch of the military he’s going to go in, but he won’t go as a celebrity recruit. We think it is the wisest to just go quietly for 2 years.”
There has been a history of celebrities being hesitant when needing to do their full army enlistment and try to avoid it for as long as possible. It was acceptable in the past if a recruit goes in as a celebrity recruit, however due to the recent scandals, idols are under a lot more scrutiny and are judged on their performance in the military. To the public, serving as a celebrity recruit just seems like having your celebrity status extended while in the army.
What do you think is the better option? Serving as a celebrity recruit or as a normal recruit for the two years?
