Boys Republic is back with a new music video titled ‘Hello.’
It has been about a year since we last heard from this group, and it felt just as long a wait for the full music video to be released once rumors and clues of their impending return hit the internet and social media. A year is a long time in the K-Pop universe and it is even longer (figuratively speaking) for a rookie group.
This is a excellent twist on the traditional love song; it’s not happy, poppy nor is it a dance track. It is in fact the opposite; subtle, sad and one of the most honest songs I have heard recently. In fact there is no dance group shot at all. It is a “real life” love song as it love is not always pretty, warm, fuzzy, and full of rainbows. It is sometimes love is sad, lonely, and painfully one-sided. Add to the fact that I am certain their vocals have gotten better since the groups’ last release and they show off those vocal skills in this songs. Using their voices to convey the emotion of the song so even if you don’t speak Korean you can get the meaning.
“Hello how have you been, how are you?
I’ve wanted to ask you 100 time more, but you are living fine with out a guy like me. While I am hurting like this.”
Then there is this line
“I steal a glance at your time line, I go and look from time to time.”
While there are different scenes and individual story lines for each of the members, the video still feels like a cohesive piece. One unifying concept is the use of muted colors throughout the music video, both in the way they are dressed but also with the ‘proper’ use of a camera filter.
The song is a great and I am really happy with it. I like how it is not what one would normally hear this time of year . Stay with Officially KMusic for all the latest in Korean music and news.
