With the controversy of last week’s round on ‘Hit The Stage’, a new week and a new theme for a the competition took place. Today Mnet uploaded the videos from the dances to the theme This Love. The goal, to convey love through their dance in an interesting way. Four dancers competed for this round.
I have been watching this since I saw that Taemin was going to be a contestant, and I have to admit, I loved the first round of the competition. The theme was Devil and it captivated me from the very beginning. This week’s theme for me was less interesting, but the dancers were able to captivate me once again. My take on this round was not as strong as the previous theme, but I did manage to have a favorite.
Before I talk about who and what dances I liked, let me recap a little:
Ten was the first to dance, dancing with Jung Si Yeon. The two shared a theme of noona-dongsaeng love. They danced to Pentatonix ‘Hit The Road Jack‘ incorporating dance styles of swing and hip hop. Ten finished the night with a score of 135.
The second dancer was former BEAST member Jang Hyunseung. This was his first time on television since leaving his group. Performing to Chris Brown’s ‘No Filter‘ the concept was a little more sexier than the first of the night. Said to have an “immature love” theme, Jang finished with a score of 138.
Being the night’s only female main contestant, I.O.I’s Kim Chungha was third on the stage. Her concept was being a girl worthy of being a crush, becoming more confident after a break-up. Performing to a mash up of Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies‘ and ‘Run The World‘ she finished the show with a score of 136.
Last to dance was Block B’s U-Kwon. This might have been the cutest concept of the night, with YooA joining him in a pets concept. The two giving a performance guided around what pets do when their owner is away. U-Kwon’s score will not be announced until next week.
Now, for my most to least liked dances of the night.
- Despite his incredibly low score (but a high popularity on social media) Ten took top spot for my favorite dance of the night. He did an amazing job keeping a fun image and energy to his dance. The swing aspects of the dance added so much flair, which is what made it my favorite. Plus, it is really hard to dance to an acapella song and manage to keep in step. Another reason I made it my favorite.
2. Taking spot as my second favorite is U-Kwon. His dance concept not only managed to be utterly adorable, but it also incorporated a story. The cat/dog style of the dance was perfect for a love concept, and it was a huge change from his last performance as The Joker.
3. Third on my list is Chungha. While the dancing was strong, and the costumes were stunning, I did not feel it was a captivating dance. While the songs were appropriate to her concept, the dancing did not match up in my opinion. She is still an amazing dancer however, and I look forward to her dancing on future shows.
4. Last on my list did not impress me at all. Jang Hyunseung managed to take a potential sexy (in a safe for work way) concept, and turn it into a cringe worth two minutes of gyrating. During some scenes of the performance, the camera cuts to the audience and they have twisted faces from the awkward performance. I too shared those same faces while watching this.
