The Entertainment Pascal has confirmed that STELLAR members Gayoung and Jeon Yul have decided to leave the group.
The Entertainment Pascal broke the news in a Twitter post on August 23, stating that “STELLAR‘s original members Gayoung and Jeon Yul have decided to graduate from the group, with the expiry of their contracts in the near future“. The post was accompanied by handwritten letters from each of the members.
Gayoung‘s letter
Gayoung‘s letter reads:
“Hello, this is STELLAR‘s Gayoung.
Hmm… what should I say… I’ve written a lot of letters, but today I’m writing the most difficult and heartbreaking letter ever…
First of all, I want to apologise to those who looked forward to my first letter in a while, and were probably excited by the alert.
It seems like just the other day that I was only 20 years old and entered this company with only my dreams in mind. Seven years have already passed, and the moment I thought would never come has arrived. My contract expires on August 31st.
To be honest, I wondered whether it would be better to tell you beforehand, or to show a smiling image of myself until the last schedule. But seeing as we have a concert coming up, I thought it would be better to tell you this bad news before the concert.
Honestly, I went through many tough times while promoting with STELLAR, but I was able to sing good songs and receive a lot of love thanks to our fans. I was able to become more dependable through many experiences, and I think these helped me become more mature as well… I spent my whole youth as a member of STELLAR, and it’s very precious to me. Of course, it’s still precious. That’s why it’s even more difficult for me to move on.
As we said in the lyrics for ‘Twinkle‘, I want to thank you for making a nobody like me into someone special. Because of our group concepts you probably went through many hardships with us, but you always stayed firmly by our side. I was able to endure all the difficult times and enjoy myself because of our fans. Thank you for giving me such good memories. Though I’m saying goodbye because my company and I have different thoughts for the future, I still want to do music, act, DJ on the radio, write, compose, study many things, and continue to challenge myself even if it takes a long time.
I think being a STELLAR member allowed me to meet a lot of people who love me. I want to apologise for not being able to stay with STELLAR until the end. I think it would be selfish for me to ask you to continue to cheer for me even though I’m leaving the team, so I won’t say that. However, I’m going to work hard both when you can and can’t see me.
Finally, to the members who I love. Thank you so much, and I’m sorry. Though right now we haven’t been able to fulfill our promises, lets keep our promise someday! I am so happy and thankful that I was able to live as STELLAR‘s Gayoung. Though I’m disappointed that I can’t greet all of the fans and staff members who have been with us for so long… Thank you so much. STELLAR and Twinkle. I love you all.

Jeon Yul‘s letter
Jeon Yul‘s letter reads:
“Hello, this is STELLAR‘s maknae Jeon Yul.
I didn’t ever imagine that a day would come when I would have to write a letter like this… My heart hurts because I have to write such a letter to Twinkle. I keep writing and erasing what I’ve written even now because I don’t know how to express my thoughts… As expected, it’s difficult to give you news like this…
After a lot of thought, I’ve decided to start a new journey after my contract with the agency ends on the 31st. I still remember the day I first stood on stage as part of STELLAR – August 25, 2011. I even remember the temperature. The memories are still fresh in my mind, but so much time has already passed. I worried a lot about making this decision, and though I’m disappointed I have sincerely thought about my decision, so I hope that you’re not too saddened by this goodbye.
I think I was able to shine so much because of the love I received from Twinkle. The stages I stood on with my unnies! I will never forget the Twinkles who made our performances shine even more. I think I’ll really miss it when I remember those days. I’ll keep every moment safe in my heart.
To the STELLAR unnies I love! Please continue to cheer me on, because I’ll continue to cheer on my members. It’s my turn to cheer for Twinkle as well. It’s the end for me as a member of STELLAR, but I’ll do my best to meet you all again with a better image.
Please don’t be too disappointed. Let’s keep each other in our hearts until we can meet again.

The Entertainment Pascal also made an official statement on the departure of the two members, saying “this decision was not an easy choice for the STELLAR members or the company … but since Gayoung and Jeon Yul have been working hard under the name of STELLAR for the past seven years, we fully understand and respect their opinions.” The company also added that they will “sincerely support Gayoung and Jeon Yul who have decided to make a fresh start upon their graduation“.
