As announced on January 6th, SM Entertainment will be launching a musical of epic proportions, that will air at the SMTown Theater next week. “School of Oz” is a hologram musical, the first of its kind, complete with a star-studded cast.
The SMTown Theater is located in Samsung-dong, Seoul, at the multicultural complex. The theater itself is also a first in Korea, as it can handle productions of various formats. It is massive, with HD projectors, a stereophonic sound system, and only the latest in technology to put on high-caliber shows of this kind. The musical will no doubt utilize spectacular visual effects, as well as pave the way for more productions of its kind.
“School of Oz” is a fantasy tale, set in the land of Oz. In the story, there is to be a competition to select the next ‘great knight’ of the land, and the day before the event, Dorothy goes missing. The show will illustrate the journeys of her friends and the adventures they encounter along the way. The show is 110 minutes long, and will feature plenty of well-known songs by SM artists, and will weave a tale of magic and wonder for families of all types to enjoy.
The cast includes TVXQ’s Changmin as Oscar the magician, SHINee’s Key as David, f(x)’s Luna as the witch Glinda, Exo’s Suho and Xiumin as Hans and Aquila, and Red Velvet’s Seul Gi playing the main character, Dorothy. Girl’s Generation’s Yoona and Super Junior’s Leeteuk will also make special appearances as well, adding their charms to the piece.
Ticket sales begin on January 7th, and the curtains will open on January 14th. More details are available at the Smtownland website.
