Secret had appeared as guest on the SBS Power FM radio show “Choi Hwa Jung′s Power Time.” During the broadcast, member Hysoung answered to one of the questions saying: “We respect individuality in our team. We don′t ′democratize,” which sparked a great controversy across the web.
The term ′democratization,′ taken out of its original meaning, is used differently in an extreme rightist site named ′Daily Best′ or ′Ilbe.′ The site looks down on the democratization movements that took place in Gwangju, and uses the word negatively to mean ′oppression′ or ′bullying.′
Netizens started to criticize Hyosung for using this word in the way the site would use it, and led many to believe that she is a part of the website.
Hysoung tweeted an official apology, saying: “Hello. This is Secret′s leader Jeon Hyosung. I wish to apologize for using a controversial term on today′s “Choi Hwa Jung′s Power Time”. I regret using the word without knowing its meaning. I′m sorry. I′ll be careful so that such a thing never happens again. Again, I am so sorry.”
