Seungri has released the second track from his latest album ‘The Great Seungri‘, ‘Where R U From‘ features Winner‘s Mino.
This track ditches the current K-pop trend of tropical house and future bass and relies on an EDM beat that fits perfectly with Seungri‘s playful tone. The song feels addictive and the thumping bass beat stays steady and true throughout the song, but is woven through with winding, mesmerising synths.
Seungri‘s performance is as always charismatic, even if a little goofy at times (which only adds to his charm). Winner‘s Mino provides a nice counter balance and a dose of hip coolness to the track. His slightly more intense delivery provides the perfect juxtaposition to the rap/vocal that Seungri delivers.
The best part is that the song doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it sounds like they all had a blast working on the track. It’s infectious, energetic and just plain good fun.
Add the goofy, irreverent music video into the mix and it’s an absolute winner – no pun intended!
Caricatures of President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un take centre stage, while other world leaders also make appearances in the music video amid a lifelike political summit that is set to end in shambles. To sort things out, ‘The Great Seungsby‘ (it’s not a typo, check out the Time cover at 0.28 in the clip) rides in on a horse and saves the day, and potentially the world, by making his way into the meeting amid a shouting match. Declaring himself the face of YG Entertainment, the BIGBANG member takes control of the situation, and then breaks into the song’s dabbing and galloping-filled choreography.
The satirical music video is full of cameos from television personalities popular on South Korean television, such as Sam Okyere and Daniel Lindemann who appear as members of the Secret Service and comedian Yoo Byung Jae, who emulates Seungri’s bandmate G-Dragon.
While being draped in political comedy, the music video also draws on Seungri’s funnyman image in the Korean entertainment world. It utilisies his role as the CEO of YG Entertainment subsidiary YGX, and also his panda-like image, which he incorporates by featuring bamboo and a furry white-and-black coat.
