A rising KPOP girl group NMIXX greeted Singapore with their very first global Showcase Tour on the 23rd of June – an impressive feat for rookies. Despite the hot weather in Singapore, the six-member group manage to heat up the Friday evening with an impressive show at the Star Theatre for their fans, NSWER. Rather than a full concert, the showcase tour was short and sweet, leaving the fans with memorable performances, detailed explanations of each song performed, various fan interactions, and explosive liveliness from both NMIXX and NSWERS.
The showcase began with a powerful performance of the group’s debut album B-side track, “Tank”, showing the strong vocals and powerful choreography from the very start. The girls came to the stage with cute appearances, all clad in cropped shirts paired with baggy jeans – a popular style with the current generations of KPOP groups. NSWERS did not disappoint with their loud and passionate cheering from both levels of the theatre. Right after the first two songs from their single album, Ad Mare, Lily took the role of the MC throughout the entire showcase for the group. Despite being the only native English speaker in the group, the other members tried their best to communicate with Singaporean NSWERS.
“…and it’s quite difficult. But now, I can do it even in my sleep!” Haewon, the leader of the group, shares how hard the choreography for “O.O” initially was, proudly sharing that she can easily perform it now, showing that they have worked really hard for the showcase tour.
The girls never faltered, displaying amazing vocal range, breath control, and stability as they sang and danced through each track in the setlist. The group moved through each song with ease even despite the tough choreography, ranging from slower songs such as “COOL (Your Rainbow)” and “My Gosh,” or upbeat or powerful songs such as “PAXXWORD” and “Just Did It.” The group put their harmonious stable vocals, meshing Haewon and Sullyoon’s low register, Lily’s high notes, Bae’s wispy tone, and Kyujin and Jiwoo’s cool rap verses.
Prior to their performance “Young, Dumb, Stupid” the main dancer Kyujin gave the audience a tutorial of simple dance moves. After the song, the members prepared a game for their fans which ultimately leads to a “gift” as mentioned by Haewon. The audience was grouped into 3 sections and each section consists of two members. Each section was instructed to sing a chorus with the member’s help, one after another, creating a canon acapella of the song “Young, Dumb Stupid”. The results sounded beautiful and harmonized, leaving the members satisfied, as a result, BAE, the vocalist of the group, revealed their “gift” to be a cute cover song of TWICE’s “TT” and a powerful cover of David Guetta’s “Hey Mama”. NSWERS showed immense reaction to the performance with loud cheering of the songs, displaying their affection for the members by shouting “I LOVE YOU NMIXX!”.
From their debut track, “O.O,” to their latest title song, “Love Me Like This,” the group performed a total of 15 songs within 2 hours. Without a doubt, the highlight performance of the evening would be the group’s second title song “DICE”. With the fan’s incredible energy for the most anticipated performance of the night, the group undoubtedly reciprocated the crowd’s passionate cheering. All the members executed the powerful choreography and incredibly high notes with no trouble, with fans loud cheers and fan chants by devoted NSWERS.
Before the last set of performances from the members, a memorable event organized specially for the group was showcased on the screen behind them. A collage video dedicated just for the members comprises fan-made appreciation montage, handwritten cards, and past practice dance videos which showcased how hard they worked and how far they came. After the montage, the members turned around surprised to see all the fans from the audience holding a banner that read, “함께할 그모든 TIME NMIXX 외 손을” which translates to, “We’ll hold hands with NMIXX for all the time(s) that we’ll be together.”
As the evening came towards a close, each member says their goodbye with promises to come back to Singapore. “….thank you so much NSWER. I love you!” said the members with lots of appreciation. NMIXX promises to come back with more amazing performances as a full concert next time. The night concluded with a Mandarin song titled “Miss You 3000” by 831, “O.O remix” and “Love Me Like This”. Overall, the showcase featuring NMIXX group was splendid and memorable, giving a strong impression of the talented rookie group’s impressive vocals and amazingly synchronized choreography. The interaction between the fans and NMIXX was undeniably unforgettable and special. Their love and appreciation towards their fans are undeniable and we hope to see the group in Singapore again.
