Simon D is coming back with a long awaited solo album! To celebrate, he has pre-released the track “사이먼 도미닉,” which translates to “Simon Dominic,” along with its MV. Within the first 5 hours of release on August 12, 2015 at 12pm KST, Simon D has already surpassed BIGBANG‘s recent releases and earned himself the #1 spot on 8 Korean music charts: MelOn, Bugs, Mnet, Ginny, Ole Music, Soribada, Naver Music, and Monkey 3. If you haven’t yet, check out his new release below.
If this track sounds familiar to any of you, it is because it’s actually a remake of his “Simon Simon” track from his underground days. This time, he has teamed up with fellow label-mate Gray, who produced and helped bring a new life to his track. He had also performed a different version of this along side with Jay Park, his co-CEO at AOMG, on Tablo’s Dreaming Radio in October of 2014.
Simon D’s new officially-released version of “Simon Dominic” seems to touch on a much more personal note. He talks about hardships that he’s overcame as he evolved from a teenager from Busan struggling to find an outlet for his love of hip hop to meeting his previous Supreme Team partner—E-Sens, becoming kings of the underground scene, and signing with Amoeba Culture. He proceeds to spit about tumbling down the mountain of fame and fortune followed with verses that expose a more humble and mature side of him while showing his aspirations for the future. Check out the lyrics for yourself here:
Simon, Simon Dominic
Simon D.o.m.i.n.i.c oh, oh
Simon, Simon Dominic
Simon D.o.m.i.n.i.c oh, oh
Simon says
1998 my hometown didn’t know hip hop
Ra.D and Keeproots, my two OG
I was no bad boy, Just flip-flops in uniform
Didn’t play soccer at recess, Instead I had some CDs and beatbox
Right when live clubs turned into dance clubs
Countless rhymes lost the stage to shine
I can’t even find them anymore, my demo tapes from back then
I can’t seem to come up with anything as pure as that
The bridge by the university and Busan station plaza
I freestyled in my first primetime
When Garion came to Busan
I’d bust out my fake forces and go wherever they went
I dreamt of Seoul watching Master Plan
My goal was four hours away by train
But back then, I had no power without my parents’ support
Anyways, music made me take the first step into life
All the guys, S’up
All the ladies ass up
You can call me Simon D.o.m.i.n.i.c
Say it louder, say my name, say my name
Simon, Simon Dominic
Simon D.o.m.i.n.i.c oh, oh
Simon, Simon Dominic
Simon D.o.m.i.n.i.c oh, oh
Hip hop won’t put food on the table
Those whiners I didn’t leave by my side
I used to be up tight
A hometown hero better at away games
Then I met someone like me in Daegu (game changed)
E-Sens and me, the finest two Gyeongsang styles
We dreamt of eating away Seoul MCs
2008, without a single album, we reigned as underground kingz
Putting ourselves #1 on all wish lists
Mix tapes all sold out
As soon as we signed with Amoeba
Some see the money I made and got jealous
Face to face, drowning in misunderstandings, drinking and talking dirty to ‘em
I lost many, but many are all memories
My 20’s left me with fame and money, bound to disappear
Of course, it all adds up to who I am now
I won’t forget the pressure day and night
Remember my name and E-Sens, team forever
All the guys, S’up
All the ladies ass up
You can call me Simon D.o.m.i.n.i.c
Say it louder, say my name, say my name
Simon, Simon Dominic
Simon D.o.m.i.n.i.c oh, oh
Simon, Simon Dominic
Simon D.o.m.i.n.i.c oh, oh
Always on my grind
One intro down, after so many takes
The cold dawn kills me a thousand times
But revives me the next night
Second chapter of my life, Responsibilities burning me down
My ambition won’t wake to Top 100, it’s not that easy
Money isn’t everything; I just wanna rhyme with my homies
Enjoy when you can enjoy
I’m going to live on in music, coordinates of my success
Forget about one love; Keep your eyes open
Rapper vs rapper, label vs label
Major vs minor, everyone else vs me
Simon, Simon Dominic
Simon D.o.m.i.n.i.c oh, oh
Simon, Simon Dominic
Simon D.o.m.i.n.i.c oh, oh

This pre-release track from Simon D is definitely multiplying the increasing anticipation for the release of his new solo album. It has been 2 months shy of 4 years since his last solo album was released. This will be the first solo album he will be releasing since signing with and becoming the co-CEO of AOMG in March of 2014.
Personally, I love both versions of the song, but prefer the newer version more. It is no wonder as to why he is topping music charts left and right already. The song shows his ability to appeal to the masses while displaying a slick flow and ability to masterfully touch on subjects that can be related by all, like the ups and downs within one’s life and the ambition to become more successful. Both of which I can relate to. Without a doubt, I’m looking forward to the release of his full solo album.
Simon D’s new track ‘Simon Dominic’ is currently available through the iTunes store.
His full solo album will be released on August 21st.
In the comment section below tell me what you think of this song! Which version do you like better? Are you anticipating the release of the full album?
