Many of us knew this day was coming, but it’s always a bit hard to have confirmation that another idol is getting ready to enlist. With the recent departure of his former bandmate Jaejoong, in addition to several other SM idols, the reveal that TVXQ’s Yunho will be the next to go is just all the more bittersweet.
At their recent Tokyo Dome performances on April 1st and 2nd, TVXQ shared many emotional moments with their Japanese fans, and Yunho himself shared some words that made it pretty clear what was about to happen. According to fan reports, he stated things like “although we can’t hold concert tours for a while, we promise to come back,” and “please say ‘welcome back’ upon our return.” The message was there, and a representative from SM confirmed the statements, saying, “It’s true Yunho is planned to enlist as an active duty soldier this year, but the specific time period has not yet been decided on.”
According to TVXQ’s schedule, the last gig they currently have lined up is a concert in Hong Kong on May 30th, so rumors have been swirling for a while of a June enlistment. However, with this latest bit of news, the timeline has become all the more unclear. Will we get an album before Yunho leaves? Will Changmin enlist soon as well? These are questions we don’t yet have the answers to. All we can do is wait.
It’s definitely a rough time for Cassiopeia, but in the end, the fandom has survived far worse, and many fans agree that they will wait for Yunho’s return, as well as the return of TVXQ. We here at Officially KMusic wish Yunho nothing but the best during his time serving, and of course for a safe and healthy return.
Stay tuned for more updates!
