Well it looks like SM Entertainment will not be pulling any punches when it comes to the leak of EXO‘s comeback track “Overdose.”
Previously SM had stated they had requested an investigation into the leak of the practice video for the song and had made “plans to go through with criminal prosecutions and claim damages from those who have illegally posted or spread the footage.” Well now it has been revealed that SM are indeed in the process of filing a lawsuit against those responsible.
SM Entertainment released an official statement on April 14th that reads as follows, ” We have officially filed for criminal prosecution charges for copyright violations as well as a breach in the Prevention of Unfair Competition and trade secret protection laws at the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office.”
The statement continues, “Regarding strict legal liabilities, we will be dealing these cybercrimes in a strong and firm way. We are also preparing for other additional civil suits for all possible situations.”
SM concluded with, “We want to once again warn you to not engage in a second or third leak or any other illegal acts to prevent damages.”
Officially KMusic readers, what do you think of SM’s reaction to the illegal release and sharing of the video and their lawsuit against those resposonsible?
