TBS, a Japanese broadcast station has announced the premier of a new audition program that will appear on their channel. It’s drawing attention for the cooperation between two powerhouse entertainment companies from Korea and Japan, SM Entertainment, and Yoshimoto Kogyo, LTD.
SM Entertainment has gained popularity throughout the years, and places in the Top 3 entertainment companies in Korea. They are most famous for their top idol groups such as DBSK, Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, and SHINee.
Yoshimoto Kogyo has a 100 year history and a roster of over 800 entertainers. In the past, it mainly focused its efforts in comedy, but has since expanded to mediums such as music, sports, and its own theme park. Recently, it has signed comedian Kang Ho Dong and actors Kim Ha Neul and Han Ji Min.
TBS has stated that the new program, titled, “Performance A“, will be a “totally new audition program produced through a collaboration between Yoshimoto and SM Entertainment.” It has also said that, “Currently, Korean culture, like K-Pop, and Japanese culture, like animation and fashion, is getting a lot of attention in Asia and the rest of the world. The show’s goal is to discover a new star that will be able to target a world-wide audience.”
The show plans to feature various agents and producers from different countries from around the world as judges. The show will not be limited to musical acts, but also actors, comedians, magicians, etc.
SM Entertainment commented on the subject, stating that, “We are discussing exactly how we will be participating [in the show].”
TBS plans to air the premier episode of “Performance A” on their channel on April 22nd.
