Stevie Wonder will perform at the 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA). Traditionally a K-pop event, the awards are seeking to become more global with greater representation of foreign artists.
“Wonder expressed interest in participating in the show based on his deep interest in the theme of 2013 MAMA, ‘Music Makes One,'” said the organizers of MAMA. “Wonder’s desire is to promote peace and harmony in Asia and sing for those who know that love is the key.”
The upcoming music awards will also feature European star duos Ylvis and Icona Pop, as well as South Korea’s Big Bang. The group was named Best Worldwide Act at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards and Artist of the Year at 2012 MAMA. Leader G-Dragon made headlines this summer by appearing opposite Missy Elliott at KCON, a K-pop convention held in Los Angeles.
MAMA 2013 takes place on November 22 at the Hong Kong AsiaWorld-Expo Arena and will be aired in over 93 countries all over the world. Voting for award nominees will continue all the way up to November 21, the day before the event.
