Sunwoo JungA released her music video for ‘Fine‘ on March 20th. She previously dropped an eerie teaser filled with mystery, and all that mystery is finally revealed. Although the single may be titled ‘Fine‘, the music video showed otherwise. We were taken through an interpretive style of music video filled with feelings of grief and sadness.
Was JungA Really Fine?
The video begins with JungA exiting an elevator. She then walks through a hallway and passes by other women. Dressed in a black laced attire, the audience immediately senses a grieving ambience. We are taken to a room filled with furniture covered with white cloth and a woman, also dressed in black attire, who becomes the main character. She dances fluidly and emotionally, representing what may be inside JungA‘s heart.
In the next scene, JungA walks downstairs and arrives backstage. The main dancer appears and takes over the scene in the messy and chaotic backstage, which is filled with other female dancers who then surrounds and overwhelms the dancer. This scene powerfully represented the chaotic emotions of a broken heart – of a love coming to an end. Finally, the main dancer forces her way through the other dancers, and JungA arrives on stage. The dancer enters the stage and she dances with all of her heart. Nothing holds her back and nothing stands in her way. She is free and releases all of her emotions. It was a dance to finally confront her feelings.
The final scene transitions to JungA walking in the same hallway and arriving in the same room from the beginning. This time it is a lady who walks towards the guitar. She then walks towards the camera with sounds of glass cracking, and the video fades to black with the hangul writing of ‘fine.’ JungA has come to terms with her heart and accepts that all will be fine.
An Aching Song Brought to Life
A song about disappearing and heartache definitely needed a video that could convey a broken heart. This video stands out on its own through its use of contemporary dance. Each scene was intricately directed and one of the most profound scenes was the final dance. The song approached its bridge that was filled with vocal flairs and a surprising use of an electric guitar, allowing the final dance to be heartbreakingly powerful. The ballad soul song had an aching chorus, a tuneful piano, but was still very gentle. Listeners can definitely appreciate the song for its raw emotions and the interpretive music video that it came with.
