The Chinese members of Super Junior-M, Zhou Mi and Henry, held an interview with Chosun, talking about various things.
When asked about what people in China thought about their “Break Down” performance in Korea, the two answered, “The video of us performing a Chinese song on a Korean music show has already exploded on Chinese sites.”
Zhou Mi talked about his introduction to K-pop, “My hometown is Wuhan, Hubei. But ever since I was young, the popular artists among my friends were Korean artists. Ever since elementary school, I’ve heard many times that I was the doppelganger of H.O.T‘s Kangta. As I watched the Korean singers who can both sing and dance well, I thought to myself that even if I never became a singer in Korea I would still learn a lot of beneficial things. I entered the 2007 UCC audition and sang Toy‘s ‘That I Was Once By Your Side‘, and unexpectedly I was accepted.”
Henry also told the story of how he came to SM Entertainment, “I am a Canadian who was raised in a Chinese family in Toronto. Although I liked singing and playing instruments, I had no thoughts of becoming a singer. But a friend said to me, ‘If I were you, I would definitely win’, and asked me to enter the 2006 Global audition in Toronto. I was one of the only two chosen in an audition among 3,000 contestants, and I even surprised myself. As a new trainee, I met TVXQ for the first time and greeted them the same way I always do saying, ‘What’s going on man? Nice to meet you’ and took out my hand. But when I did that, the look on the sunbaes’ faces changed dramatically.”
Zhou Mi revealed how he taught Chinese to fellow labelmates, “I helped other groups learn Chinese. I taught Girls’ Generation‘s Hyoyeon, Tiffany, f(x)‘s Luna, and various other members on their pronunciation after school. When the Super Junior members recorded their Chinese rap portion, I once stayed in the studio for 12 hours correcting their pronunciation.”
They were asked to rate their career out of 100, and gave themselves 60 points because there were other dreams and goals they wanted to accomplish.
Henry shared “We want to show ourselves more often in Korea. We also want to perform in countries such as Russia, Spain, and Brazil. There are a lot of fan letters sent asking for us to go to those places.” Zhou Mi stated, “I want to meet fans through acting and as an MC in Korea. The other 40 points we sill achieve in the Hallyu homeland.”
