Just a few days ago, Super Junior teased us with a short clip of their “This Is Love” music video, and told us they’d be releasing a repackaged album bearing the same name. On October 22nd, they finally revealed the full music video for their comeback!
What to say about this music video? That’s a good question. It’s the same as most SM Entertainment music videos, yet it’s completely different.
I mean, you get the use of the ever popular 360 degree camera angles and it also looks like a one-take video, plus you have the one boxed room that SM is famous for, which seems to have evolved into several boxed rooms, but in a way, it’s completely different from most SM videos I’ve seen. It’s not your typical Super Junior MV or title song either.
About the video itself, I liked how all of the rooms were connected, kind of like in Miss A‘s “I Don’t Need A Man” music video. And even though I’m not particularly fond of the 360 degree camera, it worked nicely in this case, panning from one room to the next. The use of this technique actually flowed well for a change.
And apparently, Super Junior is trying to tell us that love is the act of suggestively caressing a microphone stand. Oh how I wish I was that piece of audio equipment….I mean, the dance was very nice! Yes, very simple, yet nice. That’s exactly what I meant to say.
Lastly, the song itself I liked from the moment I heard it. It is slower than most songs, yet it still has a catchy, almost sensual beat. Sometimes the video distracts you from the song, in my case, it was the other way around this time. This is the type of song I wouldn’t have expected from a Super Junior title song, however it’s the type of song I’m glad to see them do. Both it and the video give off a mature vibe, and since most of the members are in their late 20’s, it’s only fitting. It proves that they can still effortlessly change their musical styles. However, I was admittedly a bit disappointed in the lack of cringe-worthy “Engrish” in the song.

The “This is Love” album will be released online on the 23rd, and the physical album will be out in stores on the 27th.
