K-Pop Night Out returns again to bring their fourth annual show at SXSW on Wednesday, March 16. Their first show was in 2013, hosted by Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA.) K-Pop Night Out is a music festival that brings singers and bands from all genres that exist in the Korean music industry.
This year in 2016, they have succeeded again in bringing different artists, bands, and groups that produce music of varying genres. They will be bringing R&B singer Zion T.—who recently came out with “No Make Up” and has collaborated with many artists— and The Session. Another R&B singer that was invited is D☰ΔN, a composer who has worked with popular bands such as EXO and VIXX, and has collaborated with many artists in his own music—such as “Pour Up” with rapper Zico from Block B. A fairly new girl group also attending is Mamamoo, who has been gaining popularity since debuting in 2014. Their most recent comeback is “Um Ah Oh Yeh.” An independent Korean electric rock band named Love X Stereo who has produced 4 albums will also be in attendance. Heavy Metal band Victim Mentality will bring the heavy drums and bass with their songs “Magic Finger” and “I’m Not Your Friend.” Last in the announced line-up is Haihm, an electronic musician who has worked with artists such as IU, Ga-In, BoA, and TVXQ and has recently released her second album called “Point 9.” More artists attending K-Pop Night Out will be released in a future date.
Another popular show that will also be occurring at SXSW a few days later is Seoulsonic on Friday, March 18th. Seoulsonic is coming back again for their second annual show this year at The Majestic.
This year’s line up mostly includes indie and electronic musicians. First in the line-up is Neon Bunny—an independent indie singer with the hit song “It’s You.” Others on the list include a rocking three girl rock band called Guten Birds that has produced 3 albums since 2012, the Brit-Pop boy band Bye Bye Badman—who have won various rookie awards since their debut in 2011 and have 2 EP’s and 1 album under their belt, and electronic dance music duo HEO—who won 2015’s Korean Music Award for Best Electronic Dance Album. The band Windy City distinguishes themselves from the Seoulsonic line up by being a reggae soul band with two albums and two mini albums—one of the mini albums being in Japanese. Last in the announced line-up is WYM—a solo electronic dance music producer.
