Earlier this week SHINee‘s Taemin released his second solo album ‘Move‘ and the title track of the same name ‘Move‘.
Let’s talk about the song ‘Move‘ first. The track talks about feeling a deep pull towards the one you love. The concept is sexy, grimy and a little bit avant-garde and Taemin executes the concept flawlessly.
‘Move‘ is heavily influenced by iconic 80’s music from Michael Jackson and Prince amongst others, but it colours them with a down and dirty, grimy synth driven sound.
The track is driven and propelled by the groove, pushed along by a robotic synth bass. Taemin is obviously very comfortable in this style and it carries a similarity to his song ‘Sexuality‘ which can’t be ignored. However, ‘Move‘ takes the fast track to the dark side as it rolls and roils and grinds its way through a slow-burn bass and guitar. The main hook of the track is a sexy funk vibe that is in perfect balance with the vocal.
The overall delivery of the track relies heavily on Taemin‘s sensuality to build the tension and mystery. Of course, he delivers on the promise and the track is sexy and sensual to the point of being illegal!
There have been three separate MVs released for the title track from Taemin‘s comeback album
The main MV is quite theatrical and avant-garde in style. It’s everything that was promised in the teaser clips and more! It’s a feast for the eyes and the ears.
Taemin’s first MV for ‘Move’
The second MV is the performance solo version and is focused on Taemin and the backup dancers. The focus at the start is on the song with simple choreography that reflects the sensual nature of the track. The moves are almost feline like and prowling – you can feel the tension building in the choreography which perfectly matches the song.

The third MV is the performance video duo version and it’s full of style. It features famed Japanese choreographer Sugawara Koharu who has worked with Taemin before and has also worked with Rihanna. This is my favourite of the three different MVs, it gives us a close up look at the masterful choreography and the performer. There are a number of different angles, shots and effects used to differentiate this clip from the others.
