At a café near Hongik University, a recent interview was conducted between OSEN and BIGBANG‘s Taeyang.
Most of the questions centered around Taeyang and his experience as a solo artist as he was asked “How do group and solo activities differ?” and “which do you prefer?” Taeyang said he prefers group activities as time passed and as he grew,“Before, I used to think that if I went solo I would be able to accomplish all the things I couldn’t do in a group. I considered going solo as a breakthrough means to express myself. But as time passed that feeling faded, and I was able to express those things even within the group.”
Fellow member and close friend G-Dragon agreed that they prefer the less grueling group activities even though they are both successful in their solo promotions. Since solo promotions take a lot of time and energy this may explain his three year hiatus.
Taeyang elaborated his response even further and a bit more in detail explaining his reason as to why he prefers group activities, “Nowadays group activities are more fun. Even G-Dragon said something along the same lines. It’s really difficult to be on standby alone. When we’re on standby altogether, we would talk and not even notice time was passing. That’s why we were able to express our synergy onstage.”
Taeyang is currently promoting his solo single “Ringa Linga”, his song along with his music video is gaining him a lot of recognition on the music scene. His song vapidly rose to number 1 on the live music charts such as iTunes in Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Macau. And it has gained over 3 million views on YouTube.
If you could be a recording artist would you choose to be a solo artist, or a member of a group?
