We knew they were performing at the Red Carpet, but fans of Monsta X and SEVENTEEN did not expect a special collaboration stage during the show. I know I was shocked and happily surprised when the segment called ‘The Boys’ appeared on my screen!
Monsta X is the new rookie group from Starship Entertainment and they have already gained a lot of momentum. Not only debuting slightly over 6 months ago but also dropping a total of three mini albums, having their own fandom name, and being nominated for various Rookie awards.
Opening the stage up is the seven men known from the survival show, ‘No.Mercy’, who now form Monsta X. Led by their leader, ShowNu, they looked edgy and ready to cause some trouble. Presenting their sick dance moves to the remixed instrumental intro to ‘Trespass’ which was off their debut mini album titled the same name, one might have to cool down a bit from how hot the stage is already becoming.
The lights go black and the stage clears for SEVENTEEN to make their MAMA debut performing ‘만세 (Mansae)’ from their second mini album this year, ‘Boys Be’. Kim SoHyun joins the boys for the opening and the fourteen of them are dressed in various forms of school uniforms; which is quite different from the look Monsta X had presented. For anyone who has seen the many different dance versions on ‘Mansae’, this performance added another one to that list. Completely different from what we have seen before and incorporates the use of desks as set pieces.
Setting the stage for another epic moment, JooHeon appears on one of the front stages and lays down some serious lyrics in a very charismatic way while joined by WonHo and HyungWon dancing behind him when he makes his way to the main stage.
The transition from one group to another is seamless as members Jun, Dino, Hoshi, and The8 move right behind the men exiting the stage. Looking suave and ready to pick up where Monsta X left off, SEVENTEEN’s performance unit tears up the stage with crisp and precise dance moves. This is not a surprise to fans of the Pledis Entertainment‘s rookie group since Hoshi is the group’s dance leader and choreographer. Joining them on stage is the rest of both groups. Four members from each group have already been seen and recognized and now there is 20 total men on stage. Joining their band mates are MinHyuk, I.M., and KiHyun of Monsta X and S.Coups, JeongHan, Joshua, Woozi, DK, SeungKwan, Vernon, WonWoo, and MinGyu of SEVENTEEN.
You definitely need to check out the video below to experience this amazing collaboration.
Both bands have had major success in their lyrics, vocals, raps, and especially their crisp dancing. They have also been know to be seen with one another at the various music shows they performed at so seeing them together on stage was a treat but Monbebes and Mounteens (unofficial fandom name created by Hoshi) have been wanting for months.
