Almost nine months since their debut, Seventeen gave their fans the greatest gift of all for Valentine’s Day. A fandom name.
The rookies of Pledis Entertainment made the announcement at their encore concert, ‘Like SEVENTEEN – Boys Wish,’ after performing such numbers as ‘Mansae’, ‘No F.U.N’, and ‘Rock’. Performance Unit leader, Hoshi, stepped forward and said, “We have an announcement to make”, which prompted Hip-Hop Unit leader and overall main leader, S.Coups, to make the declaration “[All of you] made us shine so bright. From now on, you are our Carat.”
Pledis had done a voting for the fandom name ranging from a vast amount of names like Mounteen, Diamond, and SM17E; names that the fandom had unofficially taken on as a title. The final choices were Carat, Tinker Bell, Tinvely, Same, Wish, and Wennie. With a majority vote, Carat won and thus Seventeen fans everywhere rejoiced for finally having a united label.
Seventeen is gathering up speed when it comes to their popularity. Their first concert, ‘LIKE SEVENTEEN – Boys Wish’, garnered so much demand that their encore performances sold out all 7,000 seats in under five minutes. If that isn’t any speculation on how far these guys can go as a group, I am not sure what does.
As a fan of Seventeen, I cannot tell you how happy I am to have a fandom name. I was partial to Diamond so I am happy to be called Carat, especially since I voted for that name. How do you feel about the new name? Tell us about it.
