For most IGOT7s and Armys, one of the main points of watching the MAMAs was to see their favorite guys perform, especially since BTS was going to debut their newest song, ‘Run’ from their comeback album ‘화양연화 pt.2’ and GOT7 has been on fire this year with their latest song, ‘니가 하면 (If You Do)’. What we didn’t expect was an epic collaboration performance from two of the hottest seven member guy groups in K-Pop.
The segment of ‘Virtual Boys’ starts with a girl receiving a box and a pair of virtual reality goggles. As she dons them, two teams are chosen out of the numerous nominees at the MAMAs. BTS and GOT7 are selected and it’s time to choose your character. Each member comes with various characteristics but, in the end, Rap Monster from BTS and Jackson from GOT7 were the chosen two.
Both men rise up from a platform in the stage and get the crowd hyped! As more platforms rise from the stage, Yugyeom and J-Hope take over as they start to dance from one side to another, meeting in the middle. Mark, Junior, V, and Jimin replace their bandmates as the intro continues and we see that The Bangtan Boys are styled in white while GOT7 is in black. The crowd gets really hyped as JB, Suga, YoungJae, JungKook, BamBam, and Jin complete the groups and all fourteen guys are united as one dance machine
The room goes dark and Yugyeom is left on stage to start ‘If You Do’. The youngest boy group of JYP Entertainment looks slick in different styles of black and sequins as they perform one of the hottest songs of the fall. Their choreography is always on point and you can feel the energy and passion increase with each passing verse. The seven members make good use of both stages as the move from the main stage to the front stage, and just as you think the song is over with, they surprise you with an amazing remix and continue to dance; thus showcasing why they were nominated for Best Dance Performance Male. They wrap up the song with the final chorus and end on a high note.
Following that crazy performance is the much anticipated ‘Run’ stage by BTS. The seven member group from Big Hit Entertainment have switched out their white jackets for various colored ones, and with the entrance of V joining the formation on stage while the intro plays, Rap Monster starts the lyrics as the crowd goes wild.
‘Run’ is a song who’s choreography perfectly matches the tempo and mood set through the music. The raps are strong and the chorus is dramatic and BTS perfectly showcases that with their moves. BTS is known for their amazingly epic and concise choreography, and this stage is no different as you can see all seven in perfect unison in not only footwork, but in emotion as well. There wasn’t a special dance break in their performance since this was the first presentation of this song and it was fantastic.
Check out the three videos below. The first video is the introduction only while the other two are the two performances.
I was floored but the energy given during this collaboration and hope there are more of these to come, especially between these two groups! Was this one of your favourite performances of the MAMAs? Let us know!
