Without a doubt we can call year 2012 a ‘Year of Debuts.’ It’s definitely hard to count down all the groups that have debuted so far because some rookies over shadowed the others. This time you will not read about the well-known rookie bands such as EXO, B.A.P or NU’EST, but rather, let’s talk about ten the most underrated rookie groups.
10. BTOB – Cube Entertainment’s boy group that debuted on March 22nd. BTOB was supposed to debut at the same time as B.A.P (January 2012) but, due to one of the members illness, their debut date was delayed by two and a half months. That member was Lee Minwoo, who later was dropped out of the list of confirmed members and now he is the main rapper in C-Clown. His place was taken by Peniel, who only joined Cube Entertainment in January 2012. The reason why they are underrated may be the fact that their debut song, ‘Imagine,’ was often compared to one of the best song of their label group mate – B2ST’s ‘Fiction.’ The other reason is the fact that a lot of fans were already attracted to NU’EST and B.A.P.
9. VIXX – a group that debuted on May 4th and is signed under Jellyfish Entertainment. All six members were chosen on Mnet’s reality program ‘Mydol.’ They have already released their second single album ‘Rock Ur Body’ but they still didn’t gain a lot of attention. Their songs are catchy but a lot of fans say that they don’t bring anything new to the music industry.
8. SHE’Z – a girl group consisted of four member who were picked up out of vocal school and trained into idols. They debuted on May 17th with song ‘My Way.’ Even the fact that they have been closely acquainted with numerous of MCs and comedians didn’t help them to gain more attention. The information about their weight loss wasn’t helpful either.
7. D-UNIT – a girl group that debuted on August 1st under D-Business Entertainment. They are often described as ‘2NE1’s Wannabies’ and it’s hard not to agree with that statement while looking at the members. Even the fact that one of the members, Woo Ram, is the sister of T-ARA‘s Boram didn’t bring them popularity.
6. CROSS GENE – a six member multinational group that officially debuted on June 8th under Amuse Korea. One of the members, Shin Won-ho, has already appeared in TV dramas (such as very popular drama ‘Big’ where he played one of the main roles) and commercials. But fans know him as an actor and often forget that his main occupation is as a singer. The rest of the members are barely known despite their earlier success in the commercial and movie industry.
5. A-JAX – a group consisted of seven members signed under DSP Media. They debuted on June 1st. They were first known as DSP Boyz but then their name was changed into A-JAX. DSP Media wanted the group to gain more popularity by comparing them to SS501 and by featuring KARA’s Goo Hara and Nicole in the group’s music videos.
4. BIGSTAR – created by Brave Entertainment, is a boy group consisting of five members who were chosen through a lengthy audition. They have been closely acquainted with their label mates, such as Electroboyz and Brave Brothers. It was revealed that the choreography for their debut song ‘HOT BOY’ was created by the members themselves. But people say that they don’t bring anything new to the music industry and are often compared to BIG BANG.
3. F.I.X – a four-member group that was one of the first rookie groups to debut in 2012. They were soon forgotten with the debuts of B.A.P, Spica and EXO. They tried to gain popularity with showing off their connections to Super Junior. Eunhyuk even appeared in their debut music video and one of the members is somehow related to Ryeowook. Despite those facts, their career didn’t go as planned.
2. C-CLOWN – Yedang Entertainment’s boy group made of six members. They debuted on July 19th and have not gained a lot of popularity since then. It looks like some kind of issue Yedang Entertainment cannot deal with. The Label is a home for Rania, Guckkasten, Cha Ji Yeon, Jo Kwan Woo and Ali. Only Rania raised to the level of a well-known idol group in this entertainment company.
1.CHAOS – a boy group that debuted on January 5th but hardly anyone consider them as a rookie group. It is hard to find them in any 2012 rookies voting. It is more like they do not exist. Even their second music video ‘Racer’ did not help them gain more attention. They have only 14,000 hits on YouTube as compared to EXO – K’s debut song ‘MAMA’ which hit over 7 millions views on YouTube!
What do you think about these underrated groups? Do you think they deserve more publicity?
