The musical duo Trouble Maker, known for creating controversy with their latest sexy concept and choreography, has stirred up trouble yet again, and this time it involves the two in a tweeted photo onto SBS MTV’s The Show. Hyuna and Heyunseung are wearing a matching graphic hoodies that depicts an image of the Japanese militaristic Rising Sun flag, causing an uproar of negative reactions among Korean citizens.
On the graphic hoodie there is a devious looking woman holding a baton with a red rose at the top in her hands. The flowers appeared to be giving off red sun beams much like the ones the Rising Sun radiates.
This has garnered a negative chain of reaction among many South Koreans, who deemed the military flag as disrespectful in regards to the long and brutal history of their imperial conquest and occupations such as in Eastern and Southeastern Asia. Even though time has passed and these once colonies are now independent nations, the former colonies still consider it harmful.
Since then it has been removed off ‘The Show’ account on twitter.
CUBE Entertainment stated that Trouble Maker did not intend to offend those due to their choice of clothing and were not intentionally or unintentionally displaying the Rising Sun.
One of the representatives for the duo explained to OSEN, “The image on Trouble Maker’s clothes is not of the Rising Sun, but of a flower bud.”
Along with the above, a sincere apology reads, “Seeing that a misunderstanding has arisen, we apologize for not having paid closer attention to the details of their outfits.”
