tvN confirmed that its upcoming drama titled ‘Basketball’ will premiere on October 21st.
Even though the drama’s title gives hint about its plot itself, it was said that basketball will not be the only main point of the drama. Taking place the 1940s, during Japanese occupation years, ‘Basketball’ will focus on the characters who look to basketball as their hopes and dreams and pathways to a better life.
The drama is worth looking forward to, as it was revealed that it has been in pre-production for 7 years and will be half pre-produced (which means that half of the series will be filmed prior to its premiere). Additionally, PD Kwak Jung-hwan of ‘Chuno’ and ‘Conspiracy in the Court’ said that he is aiming to to raise the bar on visual quality from his previous works.
What is more, is the fact, that most of the cast members are new faces. The lead role was taken by Do Ji-han (whom fans can remember from ‘Incarnation of Money’). He will turn into a young athlete who grows up in a poor village and manages to get to the national team of the 1948 Olympics (it was the first and last time an unified basketball team went to the Olympic Games representing the name “Korea”). He will be assisted by Jung Dong-hyun and Lee Elryia, for whom ‘Basketball’ will be an acting debut.
The drama includes familiar faces as well, such as drama vets Gong Hyung-jin (‘All About My Romance‘), Lee Han-wi (‘Level 7 Civil Servant‘), Ahn Seok-hwan (‘Scandal’), Jo Hee-bong (‘Good Doctor‘), and Wonder Girls’ Ye-eun.
‘Basketball’ has been given the Monday-Tuesday timeslot on the October broadcast schedule, and will run for 24 episodes.
