Cassies all over the world know what time it is. Well, more accurately, what day it is. It’s February 6th in Korea, which means TVXQ’s Yunho is now 30 years old, 29 internationally. We at Officially KMusic wanted to take the time to wish him a happy birthday, and hope that 30 treats him well and brings him continued success. Now, let’s take a quick look at the man himself, and his illustrious 11-year career in the K-Pop world.
Born in 1986, Yunho signed with SM Entertainment in 1999, officially starting his training in 2000, based on his dance skills. He had to work several other side jobs to support himself while he trained, and got shuffled around from group to group, none of which made it to debut. Disaster struck due to a hormonal imbalance in his throat, which required surgery, affecting his vocal chords. He nearly gave up, but stuck with it, finally being appointed leader of TVXQ in 2003.
When asked about why he chose his stage name, “U-Know,” Yunho has stated, ““I know that you know that I know you, so you know that I know that we know each other.” This quote sums up the leader pretty well; a bit eccentric and silly, yet caring about others. TVXQ debuted in late 2003, and the rest, as they say, is history. The group met with monumental success, quickly becoming one of the most influential in K-Pop, even after the split, when only Yunho and Changmin remained. Yunho has proven his prolific dance abilities time and time again, as well as holding his own vocally.
And of course, we can’t forget Yunho the actor, either. His first drama appearance was with Go Ara in “Heading to the Ground,” in 2009. Most recently last year, he starred alongside Jung Il-Woo in the supernatural drama, “Night Watchmen’s Journal,” giving a strong performance as the second male lead. His skills have only improved, and we look forward to seeing more of actor Yunho, as well as leader, dancer, and singer Yunho in the years to come.
