In the global edition of “We Got Married,” a Korean reality show that pairs up celebrities to experience married life, may help change the view of inter-cultural marriage to Koreans.
In the global version of the hit TV show, they not only have to deal with regular marital issues, but also cultural differences.
The first international pair consists of Taecyeon of 2PM and Wu Ying Jie a.k.a Gui Gui, who had starred in the Taiwanese drama, “Summer Fever“.
At a press conference for the show, Gui Gui was asked her favorite member of 2PM. Without hesitation, she responded with Nickhun. After hearing her reply, Taecyeon acted “outraged,” making everyone laugh.
She went on to say, “I am really happy to be collaborating with Taecyeon,” when her TV husband asked about Nickhun, she said that she had been joking. “I love Taecyeon oppa the most,” Wu said.
Lee Hong Ki of FTISLAND married Fuji Mina, a Japanese actress who appeared in, “The King of Dramas.” She fluently speaks English. Lee speaks some Japanese, having starred in the Japanese drama, “Muscle Girl,” as well as his band’s activities in Japan.
Fans have reacted positively to the show’s new concept. Other netizens also say that this show has the ability to influence the public’s opinion to be more accepting of inter-cultural marriages, which are somewhat frowned upon in Korea.
Both men were eager to come onto the show.
Lee stated that, “I have always wanted to get married to a foreigner, there were even times where I imagined myself to be getting married. Although it is make-believe, it feels pretty interesting to be experiencing married life in reality. When I heard that ‘We Got Married’ was going global, I immediately accepted the offer to appear in it. If it was just the normal ‘We Got Married,’ I would most probably not appear in it.”
Watch it on Hulu and DramaFever
