On March 17th, monster rookie girl group WEEEKLY released the MV to their latest title track, ‘After School’. The song comes off their 3rd mini album overall and in the ‘We’ series, ‘We Play’. Check it out down below!
With the group singing about skating on skateboards and being free in the world, the lyrics depict the fun times to have with friends and others after school. The bright poppy tune has an edge in its chorus with the choice of trap-like drum fill in its mix. Combined with a bouncy 2nd verse rap that makes reference to the septet’s previous title tracks (‘Tag Me‘ and ‘Zig Zag’) and light high notes in the bridge, the atmosphere however remains youthful and in line with the joyous image of the members.
Examining the MV, we see the group dressed in colourful but hip street inspired outfits. Getting off school they contact each other to meet and hang out. The outfits’ retro flair are paired with all of them hanging out to spray paint and sit around a skate park set. The vibrant park opens up an opening to another universe. Walking through the starry passage, the girls land on a blue basketball court high up in the skies. Dancing to the beat of the final chorus, the Play M Entertainment group happily take photos together as the MV ends.
Being one of the best selling rookies from 2020 (their last comeback / mini album sold over 26,000 copies), there are high expectations for the sales of this comeback with another solid title track that bucks the trend of the increasingly popular girl-crush concept. With the group keeping to their signature sound, they will definitely continue to have everyone’s attention.
WEEEKLY’s 3rd mini album, ‘We Play’ featuring lead track ‘After School’ is available now. How do you feel about the girl group’s jolly return? Let us know in the comments below!
