On November 18th, girl group WEKI MEKI released the music video to their new title track, ‘Siesta’. This comes accompanied with their simultaneously released 5th mini album, ‘I AM ME.’. This comeback is highly anticipated as the 2017 debutred group took over a year break between this release and their last. The last album they dropped was back in October 2020 with their 4th mini album, ‘New Rules’ and charismatic dance title track, ‘COOL’. Returning three times last year, fans were worried when the Fantagio Music group had not made a comeback within the first few months of this year. Thankfully, the octet have graced our screens and ears with their new 6-tracked EP.
‘Siesta’ means ‘nap’ in Spanish. It refers to an afternoon nap taken in warmer countries around the world. The lyrics to this track use this nap as a booster to energy when awakening. Booming like fireworks, the girls expect the wait will be worthwhile. Its deep house instrumental features a resounding beat to bolster the high and spirited vocals from the vocalists. In their traditional fashion, they deliver an extremely catchy and upbeat chorus to nail into your heads. Further helping this is the chorus being a two-parter, giving the melody time to really settle and groove.

Watching the music video, we see the members individually at their houses. With natural to dim lighting, the girls seem bored with their surroundings. With the heat from outside, they are tempted to continue to stay inside. However, as the evening starts, we see the girls come out. Running together across a huge walking bridge, they cherish the time together after sunset. Setting off fireworks in the street, they all cheer to the video’s conclusion.
WEKI MEKI‘s 5th mini album, ‘I AM ME.’, featuring the title track, ‘Siesta’ is available now!
