On October 7th, WJSN‘s sub-unit WJSN CHOCOME released the MV for their debut title track ‘Hmph!’. It comes their 1st single album of the same name released on the same day.
WJSN CHOCOME ‘HMPH!’ MV:
The track’s lyrics describe someone being angry over their lover’s actions in them with the sinner wanting forgiveness. Instrumentally, the song has a funky tune with a brass motif throughout. The catchy repetitive chorus along with the member’s cute intonations make for a sugary tune that surprises listeners; it will particularly have this effect for newer K-Pop fans who may have not or rarely seen this time of quirky weird concept.
Upon watching the MV, it lives up to the unconventional standards set by the song. We open with the annoying each other with colourful trumpets before jumping straight into the refrain. The music video sticks in memory with seafood elements throughout. Fishes are fished out of a toilet, a live lobster comes to life while being served as a plate of food, and finally a huge fish is stuck inside a washing machine. Other foods like chicken and ice cream also make an appearance in this vibrant video. All members show off their cute charms with their expressions to further bring sweetness.
Looking at the choreography, it is equally extra and adorable with the members expressing anger, matching the track’s eccentric feel. The outfits they wear when performing are extravagant with colour; for example there are a set of baby pink dresses with different sweet treats stuck on them. There are a couple of colourful retro inspired outfits, also a white shirt and vivid coloured skirt combo with an over-sized matching hair bow tie on top, enunciating the unit’s out there concept.
Following their group debut in 2016, this sub-unit is the first to come out of the main girl group and consists of members Soobin, Luda, Yeoreum and Dayoung. Furthermore, their single album contains one other track other this title; it is a remake of Baby V.O.X‘s 1998 single ‘Ya Ya Ya’.
WJSN CHOCOME‘s 1st single album ‘Hmph!’ featuring the title track of the same name is available now.
