Best Male Group: BIGBANG
I’m biased for saying this but: HOW could someone pick anyone other than BIGBANG this year? We’d waited so long for their comeback, and when they finally did release something, it was not one song, BUT EIGHT!
We’ve had four consecutive comebacks from BIGBANG this year and none of them has let me down. We went from crazy to punk, from happy to sad from colorful to dark in all these music videos, and I’d never thought I would see so many hair changes in such a short period.
They took a long time to come back, but when they finally did, it was in the most perfect way they could have done it. I really think BIGBANG deserves all the “artist of the year” awards, and they are definitely my choice as best male group of 2015.
Best Female Group: G-Friend
Is it really true that G-Friend debuted less than a year ago? Yes guys, it’s true. The girl group debuted on January 15th with ‘Glass Bead‘, which, became one of the hit songs of 2015 and their unique choreography was soon being danced by everyone, including K-Pop idols.
The girls grew so much within a year that it doesn’t even seem like they are rookies anymore, which is why I decided to choose them as best female group and not as best rookie. When they released ‘Me Gustas Tu‘ I was SO afraid that it wouldn’t be as good as ‘Glass Bead’, but they didn’t let me down.
Another reason for choosing them was the video that became viral, from their performance on a wet stage, in which the girls fell over and over again. I had never seen such strong female idols before, and they became an example for me.
Best Solo: Taeyeon
I already knew that Taeyeon sang well, but I didn’t really pay attention to her before this year, mainly because I’m not a big fan of Girls’ Generation. The only thing that made me watch her music video for ‘I‘ was that everyone was talking about her solo debut, and it was one of the best decisions I made this year.
That song changed something inside of me. It touched my soul, I can’t really explain what that chorus makes me feel. Taeyeon surely deserves the title of best solo artist of 2015.
Best Rookie Group: Twice
I’ve been watching these girls since the beginning of ‘SIXTEEN‘, so it’s kinda obvious that I would choose them as best rookie.
I couldn’t be happier with the final choice of the members of TWICE. It was obvious that JYP chose the older ones between the remaining participants because the younger ones would have more chances in life and had more space to grow, but I couldn’t imagine any other formation for this group.
The girls didn’t let me down with their debut song ‘LIKE OOH-AAH‘, but I’m really sure that I liked it even more because I already knew the members and their personalities. JYP surely made a good decision by putting them on a reality show before the debut.
Best Indie Artist: Lim Kim
I usually listen to Lim Kim when I’m extremely stressed or anxious because she has the power of calming me down, and this year she released her new album in a moment that I was really needing her.
I had been waiting for it for a long time (even though she had released two singles in the past year) and I couldn’t be happier with the results. With beautiful blonde hair and two extremely colorful music videos, Lim Kim was surely the artist that stood out the most in the K-indie field this year.
Wild Card: M&D
Soooooo, whoever knows me around here know that Heechul is my ultimate bias and I go crazy over everything that he does but I was really NOT expecting that his duo with TRAX’s Jungmo would have a comeback this year, and when I heard the news I really didn’t expect that it would be so good.
M&D’s album screams “Heechul” all over it and the music video for ‘I Wish’ was for sure my favorite video of the year. The song was written by Heechul and made me fall even more in love with him. The video is so funny, and it represents his personality so much that I couldn’t help by watching it over and over again. Also, it was released on my birthday, which made things even more special for me.
I really think this was the most unexpected surprise I had in K-Pop this year, and I hope many people agree with me.
So, these were my choices for 2015, and I hope you liked them. It was a very complicated year for me, but I’m happy I still got to dedicate a part of it to Officially KMusic and it’s fans. I hope you continue to follow us this year and that we are able to bring more joy to your lives everyday. Happy holidays and have a great 2016!
