Yang Hyun Suk, CEO of YG Entertainment, has just recently wrapped up activities for “K-Pop Star 2“. YG shows no signs of tiring, and says that he finds that all the effort he puts into the show are worthwhile.
YG joked that, “There were times I wanted to run away, but every time I remember that this is a program where young people come with dreams and strive to make it come true, I do my best.”
According to YG, “K-Pop Star” is not merely a show to pick good singers, but that, “the biggest difference is that we evaluate each candidate’s growth potential foremost. We choose winners because we see a bright future ahead of them.”
When contestants such as Akdong Musician or Bang Yedam improve and grow near the end of the show, YG says that, “I was most proud when we finally unleashed their potential at that point.”
For him, the show doesn’t end at the finale. He enjoys watching them progress as they move forward in their careers. Showing respect in the direction the winners of the show choose to take, he understands how hard it is to pick a company to go to, knowing that much deliberation goes into finding the perfect company.
He went on to reveal that, “the possibility of a third season for the franchise is 50/50, if a third season does happen, BoA, JYP and I need to stick together. Staffing shouldn’t change as we work together well. Perhaps the only change need to only be in the format.”
The most recent winner of the show, Akdong Musician, will be writing a song for an upcoming OST.
