YG Entertainment has released that their new girl group SuPearls have disbanded.
YG Entertainment stated, “We’ve decided to nullify the contracts of Lee Michelle, Lee Jung Mi, and Lee Seung Joo without any conditions“.
Only Lee Hi will be staying in the company to continue her solo career.
YG Entertainment added, “Even though it’s disappointing, they decided that they should break up for the benefit of each other, so we have decided on this unavoidable decision.” YG Entertainment is currently busy with their upcoming girl group, as well as the comebacks for 2NE1, G-Dragon, and Kang Seung Yoon. Lee Hi is expected to release her solo album next month.
Fans are outraged and upset. One comment read: “Terminating their contracts isn’t the issue here. Shouldn’t YG be compensating the girls for tying them down and not debuting them? Had it not been for YG, they could’ve already debuted with another company now. Season one of the show is already long over and the public is about to forget them so what does he expect them to do by just throwing them out like this? So unbelievably irresponsible.”
YG has been suffering from poor management over the past year, gaining a reputation among K-pop fans as full of empty promises. SuPearls and YG’s new girl group were both due to debut last year, a boy group announced back in 2011 that has yet to been announced, in addition to comebacks from 2NE1 and BIGBANG’s Taeyang, but all four have been repeatedly pushed back for months now. The latest plan is to have 2NE1 return in March, along with the release of Lee Hi’s first studio album, and yet another G-Dragon solo album. Along with PSY’s English album, also set for release in March. But following all this last year’s records, it may not be possible to fulfill everything YG has set out to do.
It seems YG cannot even handle 2NE1 sometimes, and with another girl group in the works, there is absolutely no way that YG would be able to juggle three girl groups at once. Maybe now YG will reconsider its management style and the way that the label is being run. If YG continues to break promises, they will probably begin to lose fans.
