Yoo Yeon Suk’s journey to success has been long and difficult; a hard road that took him 10 years to get where he is today.
On September 29th, Yoo Yeon Suk made an appearance on the SBS broadcast “Healing Camp.” During the broadcast, he spoke about life as a struggling actor, and how despite debuting under a company, it didn’t guarantee him success. This caused the host to ask him, “You had your acting debut in the film’Old Boy,’ but you say that you don’t have money?” Yoo Yeon Suk then responded, “The pay that I get from my projects isn’t remarkable, and after paying my living dues, there’s not much left to my salary, and I was often in debt.”
Yoo Yeon Suk said it wasn’t until he starred in “Reply 1994,” that he saw his career taking a turn for the better, as well as his bank account. If there is one thing he has learned, it’s that success doesn’t come easily and that it takes a lot to hold on to your dream. Yoo Yeon Suk now has tons of projects, and is able to provide for his parents. Yoo Yeon Suk is at his happiest in a very long time, stating, “I learned that if there is something that you’re passionate about doing, you should devote ten years of your life doing it, even if you don’t gain anything in return. Although I didn’t become rich in that ten years, there were a lot of things that I gained and learned about myself. Those ten years were very precious to me.”
Yoo Yeon Suk is an inspiring because it is the rare rags to riches story that we don’t see as often. Even though we know success doesn’t come easy, it’s hard to believe it until we go through it.
