We were incredibly excited for Super Junior-M‘s alum Zhou Mi to finally have a fully promoted solo debut. He’s super talented though he’s been working quietly and mostly behind the scenes with only rare steps in to the spotlight when SuJu-M promotes. Much like Henry before him, his debut was quietly hyped with a teaser that was a little vague but just like Henry, it seems that the wait was totally worth it.
There are two versions of this song; one in Korean that features Chanyeol from EXO and one in Chinese that features Tao. Both versions utilize the same video concept: post-break up, Zhou Mi wants to rewind time to undo the time that he was, quite frankly, a butt and a terrible boyfriend. Who can’t relate to that? And seriously, he’s not very nice to his video girlfriend at all. The song has a strong R&B feel to it and suits his voice quite well. I am not as familiar with SuJu-M and the voices of the individual members, but this song made me want to be a fan of Zhou Mi. His voice has a smooth, emotional and mature quality that I really love. He also is a very skilled dancer, which is a bonus but not really a surprise any more. I think you have to be a stellar dancer to be part of SM these days.
Here are the two versions of the video for you to watch (Korean first, Chinese second) and fall in love with!
I really love this song and I would have loved it just as much without the added bonus at the end of the video. Did you know that about Zhou Mi? I feel sadly under-informed, I had no idea.
Now for the only difficult part of this review: I liked this song so much more than I liked Taemin‘s “Danger“. I know that’s hard to hear, particularly if you’re a hard-core Shawol like I am. To me, this song was mature and soulful and funky in a way that Taemin just can’t master yet. If I could only listen to one artists’ work from SM this year, right now my money is on Zhou Mi. Or EXO, that “Overdose” mini-album was amazing. The point being that this album should be on every fan’s “Best of 2014” list.
