Zico and IU‘s latest collaboration track ‘SoulMate‘ has been released much to the delight of fans of both artists.
The song is an R&B soul track which features a vintage arrangement. Zico composed, wrote the lyrics and produced the track himself. Other notable guest appearances on the song are Crush who features in the chorus (and in the MV) and MeloMance‘s Jung Dong Hwan on piano.
The song allows us the chance to gasp in wonder at Zico‘s talent and versatility as he opens the track with his melodic vocal before launching into his usual rap. The combines with IU‘s fresh, clear and sweet vocal that is so recognisable to complete a soothing and gentle love song.
Although the song is a little more restrained than we were expecting, it’s a song that plays well to the strengths of both artists.
The music video shows the two singers meeting and travelling together in an elevator. The use of the vintage color palette adds to the theme and concept of the song. Make sure you keep an eye out for Crush‘s cameo (although who could miss him with that beautiful bright blue hair).
