On July 27th, ZICO released the music video to his new title track, ‘Freak’. The track comes off the simultaneously dropped mini album, ‘Grown Ass Kid’. Featuring five tracks, this was preceded by the pre-release track, ‘Seoul Drift’, which was accompanied with its own music video on July 19th.
Featuring the signature rap and vocal tones from the artist, the lyrics depict a city falling into ruin due to freaks through chaos. His powerful and confident delivery blares strongly leading to a brassy in-your-face hook for the chorus.
Watching the music video, we follow the storyline of the singer hanging out with friends at his place. As the news program on the TV airs, breaking news leads to the beginning of a saga. Quickly rushing out, the city is already breaking down as people take to the streets and fight against each other. Explosions of buildings, people on fire, and burning forests light a dull atmosphere. This leads the group to confront a leader of the chaotic forces controlling people’s behaviours to no avail.
Being used for an experiment that turns his eyes green, the MV ends with everyone bar him collapsing on the street. Grasping in the destruction, he lonelily walks away.
