We have previously wrote about “8 Maknaes Who You Can’t Believe Are the Youngest” and this time we are going to look at the opposite end of the spectrum. A group cannot function properly without a leader and we want to pay tribute to those leaders who, in our hearts, exhibit great leadership skills. We here at Officially KMusic realize that there are more great leaders in the K-Pop world, but we decided to pick only 8 of them and list them in no particular order.
Super Junior‘s Leeteuk
We know that SM Entertainment usually appoints a leader based on who the eldest in the group is because they are more than likely to be the most mature and responsible. Super Junior’s leader, Leeteuk, is no exception. He is a great leader to his many members. After all, the group has been together for almost a decade so that’s gotta say something. They have been through a lot over the past 9 years and Leeteuk has gotten them through each and every struggle.
BIGBANG‘s G-Dragon
It’s not a list of greatest leaders without including G-Dragon. He may not be the oldest in his group, but that doesn’t mean he can’t lead. Unlike Leeteuk though, we won’t focus on G-Dragon’s ability to lead BIGBANG – we’re going to focus on his ability to lead his own way. He’s done very well as a solo artist and has won numerous awards, both domestic and international. Plus, he’s a fashion icon and pretty much does his own thing. And it’s only fitting if we include a video of a performance of “The Leaders” by G-Dragon and 2NE1′s CL.
Infinite‘s Sungkyu
His members may make fun of him for being old, but “Grandpa Gyu” is a very strong leader. Infinite’s leader can hold his frustration in well when his members constantly tease him on variety shows such as “Weekly Idol” and “Ranking King“. He knows how to joke around and even sometimes threatens the members, but he always does it in a teasing manner. When it comes to working hard though, Sungkyu doesn’t play around and that’s what makes him a great leader. He keeps his members in line and even if they joke around with him, at the end of the day they still respect his authority. He must be doing his job right if the group still holds their 99.9% synchronization title after 4 years. Dancing like that takes hard discipline which I’m sure Sungkyu has no trouble with, like in the video below.
2NE1‘s CL
A lot of people can agree that CL is the fiercest female leader in the K-Pop world. Like G-Dragon, she’s not the oldest member of 2NE1, but nonetheless, she does a good job in leading the other three girls. She also takes control of herself well. She’s strong and she has the personality of a leader. Like some of the other leaders on this list, CL’s gone solo, which is not an easy thing to do. She can handle the pressure of being in the spotlight by herself and with that kind of attitude, she makes a great leader. Check out a remix performance of her solo song “The Baddest Female“.
U-KISS‘ Soohyun
Being the leader of U-KISS must be stressful. After going through so many member changes, Soohyun stills remains a gentle and caring leader to his members. And just because you’re a leader, doesn’t mean you can’t be a complete dork, which Soohyun pulls off perfectly, clearly seen in the video below. He’s not just a gifted vocalist and a good leader, he could also try his hand at comedy too. Nothing better than watching your leader throw away his image all for variety purposes.
ZE:A‘s Lee Hoo
Recently Lee Hoo has shown his outstanding leadership skills with the things he tweeted regarding Star Empire‘s CEO. He was tired of keeping quiet about what has been going on in the company, sticking up for not only his fellow ZE:A members, but also 9Muses and the other artists and trainees at Star Empire. If this doesn’t show true leadership skills, I don’t know what does. Check out the video below of how Lee Hoo became ZE:A’s brave leader.
Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon
Known as Girls’ Generation’s kid leader, this young lady is anything but. She doesn’t have the face that you’d normally associate with being a tough leader, but I’m sure if she was pushed to it, she wouldn’t hesitate to discipline her members. She at first thought being the leader was going to be a burden, but the members follow her well. Sometimes it is hard to be a leader and there are probably times where Taeyeon and other leader idols feel pressured or burdened, but I think, at the end of the day, the only thing they think about is their members and ways they can work harder or improve the group. We think you’re doing an awesome job, Taeyeon! That’s why we included you on this list.
BAP‘s Bang Yongguk
Last but not least, we added Bang Yongguk to our list. He is a great leader after all! We couldn’t leave him out. Yongguk showcased his leadership skills in an interview telling us to anticipate BAP, which ended up making him cry. I wonder what was going through his mind at that moment. Probably as a rookie group at the time, he could have been worried about their popularity. Well, no need to worry! Your group is very popular and fans all over the world adore you!
There are so many other awesome leaders we could have mentioned, but we wanted to stick to the 8 on the list. Do you agree with this and who else would you have added? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
