It’s official, the court had made their decision for sentencing the marijuana case involving DMTN‘s Daniel, Cha Seung Won‘s son Cha No Ah, and more.
Previously, the prosecution had ordered 1 year of jail sentence and 6,690,500 KRW penalty (6034 USD) for Daniel and now the court has made their decision today.
On the 17th of October, the court had said,“Daniel acted as the intermediary in the selling of marijuana 12 times and sold marijuana 4 times.” It’s also been said he had denied smoking the marijuana at the start of the investigation. After they had done a hair strand test it was found later on that it had been tested positive. Today, they have sentenced him to 1 year in jail and a penalty of 7,160,000 KRW.
Despite Daniel’s plea for leniency last time, Daniel has a less tension attitude towards marijuana. The court also stated, “Even if he has a weak recognition that smoking marijuana is illegal, it is still a crime. Especially selling and acting as the intermediary in selling is a major crime.”
They went on, “Daniel has participated in the hearings and investigation seriously and diligently and he has also expressed that he will enlist in the military on his own and serve the country. Taking these factors into consideration, we have sentenced him to the minimum amount that we can give him based on the law.”
As for Cha No Ah, the prosecution demanded 10 months jail sentence for smoking marijuana 2-3 times, but the final sentenced that was given out today gave him a suspended sentence of 6 month jail term suspended for two years.
The court did not explain much of their decision on Cha No Ah, but in comparison to the other people involved in the case, they have awarded him with a lighter sentence.
