SHINee is back! The wait is over, Shawols and kpoppers world wide can rejoice that the guys are back with a new music video titled ‘View.’ First off I like many others are happy to see SHINee back and healthy. Namely their hard working leader Onew that had some health issues. But they are back and ready to top the K-Pop charts.
Just prior to the music video release the guys dropped their 4th album ‘Odd‘ if you have not heard it yet then you should go and give it a listen. Then go buy it.
When I first watched the teasers and now the music video my first thought was this case of Stockholm Syndrome is the stuff that fan fictions are made of. In case you don’t know Stockholm Syndrome is a psychological condition that occurs when the hostages (SHINee) express feelings of empathy, sympathy, positively, and even understanding towards their captors (those girls). To the point that they will defend them. Or in this case hang out in a bar and go swimming.
Now let’s talk about this music video.
I have said it before and I will say it again. I like how SHINee is always coming back with something new and different. Not that having a niche and sticking with it is bad. I just like the fact that these guys are always changing things up and playing with news sounds and concepts. SHINee is one of the few groups in K-Pop that can pull that off.
I think it is best that I tell you what I did not like about this music video. First off the editing and the use of filters. Seriously just because you have a filter and any number of editing tools does not mean you need to use them. A group like SHINee does not need them. This leads me to the second thing I dislike about the music video. The view, what I am talking about are the angles at which they shot at this music video. It was ether and extreme first person shoot. Or in other cases the angle combined with the location made the scene seem squashed.
In this music video, SHINee is leaving an event and event they get kidnapped. Then they all go mini crime spree that culminates when they give a mini concert in a bar that just broke into. Like most SHINee music video I hope they release either a dance version or a dance practice for this song. We only get to see bits and pieces of the choreography in the music video.
While the case can be made that the guys of SHINee are some of the best dancers in K-Pop I really did not get that feeling from this music video. Overall the song and music video are catchy and full of energy. It will make a perfect addition to anyone’s summertime playlist (or winter time for my friends in the Southern Hemisphere).
Again welcome back SHINee , we missed you. Stay with Officially KMusic for all the latest in Korean music and news.
