With the amount of K-Pop groups and soloists debuting in droves, it’s very hard to keep up with everyone who makes their first steps into the industry. Put on top of that the comebacks of numerous established acts, the industry is overwhelming with talent. Debuting simultaneously in South Korea and Japan on November 17th, 2020, from the label MAJOR9 (home to artists such as R&B quartet Big Brain and ZE:A’s youngest member Kim Dongjun), comes their first ever girl group, BLING BLING. Making their flashy entrance into the K-Pop scene, the collective danced covers of a mashup of BTS’ ‘Fire’ and NCT U’s ‘Boss’ amongst others. Their debut track, ‘G.G.B’ featured elements of Brazillian Funk with deeper vocal timbres overall compared to many other girl group acts. Let’s learn a bit about each of the members!
MEMBER INTRODUCTIONS
Comprising six members hailing from Japan and South Korea, below is some basic information about each one of them.
Yubin
Lead vocalist and lead dancer, she was born on February 27th 2002, making her also the maknae (youngest member) of the group. Some of you may recognize her through her brief appearance on Mnet’s idol survival show, Produce 48 in 2018, where she ranked #88 before ultimately being eliminated. Aside from previous exposure to the public pre-debut, she also had previously trained at various companies as a trainee; training under the likes of CNC School, Fantagio Music and STARDIUM Entertainment. She was in fact part of the pre-debut lineup for STARDIUM’s new girl group, formed with other trainees from the Produce 48 series. However, it seems she couldn’t wait any longer and has finally made her debut!
She was the first member to be officially introduced as part of BLING BLING with her vocal cover of BAEK YERIN’s track, ‘Across The Universe’ on August 13th, 2020.
Jieun
Along with member Yubin, she too was part of STARDIUM Entertainment’s initial pre-debut lineup. Born on March 3rd 2001, in addition to attending the dance school, HAK Enter Academy, she has become the main vocalist of the sextet, lending resonant pipes to their tunes.
She was the second member officially introduced with her vocal cover of Ariana Grande’s B-Side song, ‘Honeymoon Avenue’ on August 20th, 2020.
Ayamy
The first Japanese member of the group. She represents being a lead rapper, lead dancer and vocalist. Debuting with braces, her beauty shines through her dancing skills as she is flexible and can easily do the splits. She’s left handed and likes making and designing clothes.
She was the third member officially introduced through her dance cover of Tinashe’s ‘Die A Little Bit’ on August 27th, 2020.
Marin
Born in Osaka, she is the second Japanese member of the group. She loves cats and is a Blink, being a fan of the girl group BLACKPINK. Her hobbies include taking pictures and cooking which is ranked with her and member Juhyun being the best two chefs in the kitchen.
Being the main dancer of the group, she was the fourth officially introduced member, dancing to Eve’s 2001 single, ‘Who’s That Girl’ on September 3rd, 2020.
Juhyun
Being the oldest member of the group, born on April 1st, 2000, this makes her the natural leader. Some may have seen her short appearance on JTBC and YG Entertainment’s idol survival show ‘Mix Nine’, though unfortunately she did not pass the auditions to join the program. Along with Marin she’s one of the best cooks in the group and she is known to make the best dad jokes and is the mood maker for the six member act. She’s also school friends with CIGNATURE’s Seline.
Taking the role of the main rapper, she was the fifth member to be introduced with her cover of Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj’s collaboration, ‘Swish Swish’ on September 11th, 2020.
Narin
Joining the agency in 2018, she is a vocalist who specialises in high notes, hence she’s the best at playing the ‘Hello Cleopatra’ game (a game where people over different rounds take turns to say the phrase in continuously higher pitches till someone can’t sing any higher and gets eliminated). Her favourite colour is pink and although her strange experimentation in cooking led her to make oily rice, she does like baking. Furthermore, she can also communicate in Japanese, a useful skill with the other foreign members.
She was the final member officially introduced to the public, singing a rendition of JP Saxe ft. Julia Michaels’ song, ‘If the World Was Ending’ on September 17th, 2020.
THEIR LATEST MUSIC VIDEO
Their single album, ‘G.G.B’ featured both Korean and Japanese versions of the tracks. Although they debuted with the title single ‘G.G.B’, one month later on December 8th, they released a performance MV for its B-Side tune, ‘LA LA LA’. Its lyrics follow a similar vein to its lead predecessor, with the girls exclaiming the youthful message of confidence and swagger, being the brightest of them all. The Brazilian Funk influence also bombastically plays in the track’s production, creating an upbeat party vibe paired with the vigorous energy of the group’s vocal tones and raps.
Shot in a company’s garage, the stylised set presents well with various streamers, posters and banners stuck on its walls. The slight industrial look along with the cheerleading inspired outfits create a young hip atmosphere. Changing neon lights, 360° and one take nature of the filming also add extra movement and interest. Choreography wise, it’s filled with energetic and free movements, fully displaying the group’s lively charm.
As part of their promotion activities, the group also had a short two-episode series where they visited their senior groups, LOONA and WJSN CHOCOME to get advice from them. With questions such as how to find the cameras on stage, and learning the differences between being a trainee and a professional idol, they performed both tracks to the pleasure of the girl groups. Most recently, the group continued uploading dance covers to their YouTube channel, performing Uhm Junghwa’s 2020 single ‘Hop In’.
Stay up to date across Bling Bling´s social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Fancafe and TikTok) as the group has recently announced a comeback with ’CONTRAST’ album set to be released on 20th May 2021.
