On June 24, 2016 Apink had their well-anticipated live performance at the SM Mall of Asia Open Concert Grounds in Manila, Philippines. They arrived in the Philippines on the 23rd and went straight to rehearsals, showing their dedication to putting on a good performance for Pink Pandas.
Apink were not the only artists that performed. Local artists from the Philippines such as James Reid and Nadine Lustre also known as JaDine, father and son duo– Gary and Gab Valenciano, American hip hop-EDM group Far East Movement, Bebe Rexha and the highlight of the concert, One Republic were also in attendance to perform at the MTV Music Evolution 2016.
On the afternoon of the concert day, we were able to hear Apink speak about their time in the Philippines through an exclusive press conference lead by VJ Andre Paras and VJ Hanli Hoefer.
A representative asked Apink if they will be having a concert in Korea. With the help of a translator – Chorong responded, “We will be releasing our next album first before we have our concert in Korea. Please wait a little bit more as we are preparing a lot of new songs for the album.” Eunji added, “We’re doing our best to quickly release the album for the fans. Please wait a little bit longer.”
Another representative asked the girls how it felt to be in the Philippines for the first time to meet their Filipino fans and to perform in a prestigious event representing K-pop at the MTV Music Evolution. Naeun answered, “It’s an honor for us to be here in front of you. It’s our first time meeting our fans but we’re so happy that a lot of you came here for us and we hope you would enjoy our performance later.”
When someone proposed “Since it’s your first time in the Philippines, what are your expectations from the fans? For sure you have heard about your Filipino fans while you’re in Korea.” Eunji enthusiastically replied, “As you mentioned it’s our first performance here so we can’t wait to meet our fans and we will do our best at the concert.”
When asked “Some of the Apink members have been dropping hints about the next comeback. Can you give your fans a clue or a hint on what the concept will be?” Again Eunji answered with a bright smile, “We’re not sure about everything yet so we can’t reveal much about the next comeback. But we’re sure you’re all going to love the songs and the title song.” Are you guys ready for Apink to comeback!?
An interesting question asked was “We heard that you will be releasing a reality show or perhaps it is on going already. If it’s true, what can we expect from this reality show?” Maknae Hayoung said happily, “Each of us will be traveling to different countries and we will be filming our tour there. Although some of the members haven’t actually filmed yet. But you’re going to expect ourselves more lovely and lively.” A follow up question was asked if the Philippines was going to be a part of their film location. Eunji responded, “There are already designated countries to film at. It’s unfortunate that Philippines isn’t included.” Bomi added with a hopeful smile, “If we were given a chance, we would love to come back to the Philippines.”
When the girls were asked about their favorite meaningful lyrics in ‘The Wave’ for Apink’s 5th anniversary, Eunji proclaimed, “My part where I sing “나는 노래한다” (t/n: I am singing) fits me the most.” Bomi also gave her opinion, “For me, I have a part that goes like “난 할 수 있어” (t/n: I can do it). I think it applies to our fans that if you believe in us, we can do everything for you.”
After concluding the press conference, we had a chance to chat with Apink in their waiting room. You can read about that here!
