DSP Media boy group MIRAE have officially made their debut!
On March 17th, the seven member collective released their title track MV for ‘Killa’ along with the identically titled 1st mini album. Using the pseudonym ‘DSP N’ for their pre-debut activities back in 2020, the lyrics describe their want to bring splendid music to fans and the world, showing off all the bells and whistles as to what they can bring to the K-Pop industry. Check out the MV down below!
Sonically the electronic dance track is upbeat with strong beats to grab the listener’s attention. Rappers’ deep voices and different tones complement this intense soundscape. However the vocalists also don’t shy away, bringing resonant vocals and high notes to ensure the song never loses momentum. A great example of this is in the two-part chorus where the EDM beat introduces itself to a vocally harmonic refrain which then follows charismatic rap lines, giving the best of both worlds to showcase the abilities of the septet.
Watching the MV, it mixes elements of ancient in a predominantly futuristic setting. We see a member wear a traditional Korean Hanbok whilst holding a large calligraphy brush. However the brush later turns out to be able to draw in floating space, without the need of paper contact. Furthermore, it seems members are all scattered around the futuristic world. Some have bionic implants and they realize something isn’t as it should be and something´s calling for them. Driving in levitated cars, the individual members drive through the neon-lit cityscape to meet and come together as one united unit. Choreography wise, it is sharp and energetic. As mentioned before, the heart pumping beat allows for a cool performance to display the coordinated movements of the group, particularly with a short dance break right before the bridge.
For those who may not know, some of the members were already revealed to the public through participating in idol survival programs. Members Khael and Park Siyoung featured in MBC’s ‘Under Nineteen’ which spawned the group 1THE9. Members Lee Junhyuk and Son Dongpyo made appearances in Mnet’s ‘Produce X 101’ with the latter debuting with the lineup for the now disbanded, X1. With the group’s Korean name translating to ‘Future Boys’, the group definitely have much we can expect in the coming months and years, maybe keeping with their ultramodern concepts.
MIRAE’s 1st mini album, ‘Killa’ featuring the identically named title track is available now. How do you feel about the group’s long-awaited debut? Let us know in the comments below!
