After a long time since her solo debut, Sunmi, former member of Wonder Girls, has finally released her first Mini-Album, “Full Moon“.
The concept of this Mini-Album is very creative. It has a dark and magical feeling that matches perfectly with all the songs. Korea is known for its horror movies, so it’s nice to see a bit of that in music as well. Despite the creepy concept, Sunmi looks beautiful with her pale skin and black hair in the pictures.
The main song, “Full Moon” brought lots of surprises. “The first collaboration of JYP and Brave Sound” hit the charts with its beautiful melody and Sunmi’s pure voice. That “Eh eh eh eh eh” stays in your mind during the whole day every time you hear it and the chorus makes you feel like the full moon is rising right in front of your eyes. JYP trainee, Lena, raps on the track with an amazing rythym. She doesn’t just speak the words, but also has an awesome voice that kept everyone biting their nails for her debut.
The album also cointains “24 Hours“, Sunmi’s debut song that was released last year. People are already familiar with this song, but it doesn’t make it less cool. Sunmi clearly transmits her desperation while singing this song and you can almost feel that you’re getting crazy yourself. The beat really sounds like a clock running and that part where the music turns into a tango is really exciting.
The rest of the songs are also incredible. “Who am I?” has a very Western feeling (kind of like Brown Eyed Girls‘ Kill Bill) and features Wonder Girls’ Yubin, while “If That Was You” features WGs’ Yenny and has a dramatic and sad melody that can bring tears to your eyes. Another collaboration in this album is with Jackson from GOT7 in “Frozen in Time“, a soft ballad that kind of reminds Lim Kim‘s indie style in which Sunmi’s voice matched perfectly with Jackson’s.
The revelation of this album was the song “Burn“. It’s style is not only different from Sunmi’s but from everything in the K-pop industry. It kind of reminds David Guetta‘s remixes and it’s perfect to be played in clubs cause no one can help dancing to this songs.
Sunmi’s “Full Moon” Mini-Album will surely be one of the best this year, so if you haven’t listened to it yet, make sure to check it out as soon as possible! To buy the album, click HERE.
