BTS will be releasing their comeback album ‘Love Yourself : Tear’ in two weeks time on May 18, however last night they released their first teaser track ‘Singularity‘.
The hauntingly beautiful track features BTS member V. ‘Singularity‘ has a smooth R&B/Jazz sound, which is perfectly suited to V‘s deep, rich vocal. At times it feels as if he is crooning the lines to a lost love before it becomes a reflective, internal monologue. ‘Have I lost myself, Or have I gained you?”, he questions in the lyrics.
The video that accompanies the track features compelling and captivating choreography by the singer and a team of dancers. The choreography has a distinctive contemporary/interpretive dance feel to it. The clip begins with V dancing with a faceless partner (which resembles a coat rack) who keeps pulling his attention back. The clip continues on switching between scenes of V performing solo and with his dancers.
When on his own, V is surrounded by darkness which is highlighted only by haunting stark white masks that he interacts with, and in other scenes, he is in a room filled with flowers and a makeshift lake, which ties back to the song’s lyrics which talk about lakes.
The clip ends with V wearing one of the white masks which has a single black tear running down the face.
