On January 17th, Star Empire Entertainment released what they call “9Muses (Drama) Teaser #1,” implying that there will be several more to come, hopefully ones that are longer than this 15 second video.
It looks like its back to the tried and true with “Drama.” 9Muses is known for making incredibly sexy MVs, especially during the time when cute reigned the K-Pop scene. Now that sexy has been dominating for the last 6 or so months, it was a surprise to many to see pastel wigs in their teaser photos for “Drama.” Any K-Pop fan that has been in the scene for a short amount of time, knows that teaser videos and teaser photos don’t always have anything to do with the video, and sometimes are completely different for effect. However, in this case of pastel versus sexy styling and given 9Muses’ track record, I’m much more inclined to think that they’ll stick with the sexy concept and incorporate the wigs into that in some way.
I can’t really say which one I’d like to see more; on one hand I love 9Muses’ sexy concepts, and think they’ve been well executed, on the other it’s fairly well known that their entertainment company is not necessarily thinking of the girls’ perspectives when they are coming up with these sexy concepts, so I wonder if the ladies of 9Muses would prefer a softer cuter concept. I could argue that it’s been since “Single Figaro” that we’ve seen a 9Muses that doesn’t propel itself on sexy. They’ve seen much more success since their debut, but it would be interesting to see how they would go back to cute. Perhaps they might even pit the sexy concept against the cute concept much like in SNSD’s “Oh.”
No matter what they decide, I’m going to be watching. They do sexy well, I’d be interested to see how they would show their maturity in a cute style and above all, I’m interested in the two new members Sojin and Keumjo. Fortunately for me, the 23rd of January is not far off!
