Days before Christmas last 2015, YG Entertainment‘s monster rookie group iKON unleashed two different music videos that seems to be out of our expectations of the group. These two songs, “What’s Wrong?” and “Dumb and Dumber” are part of their debut full album “Welcome Back“. So the main question here would be, what’s wrong with iKON being Dumb and Dumber with their comebacks?
“Dumb & Dumber” is a catchy electro-dance music that more of a mash-up of PSY and BIGBANG, with a addictive beat, that even when the music stops, it continues playing in your head, not to mention you wanting to wobble and move your head left to right and vice versa. If you listen to it more, some part of the song actually resembles Ylvis‘ song “What does the Fox Say?“. It slowly builds up to another party-anthem themed song.
Now, to decipher the music video which I find really odd yet fascinating, you can actually make a lot of memes from it. From T.O.P.‘s fellow astronauts (Double B), a gigantic dog toy, 70’s men’s look, vampire, sexy looking wolves and many more . Yes, this music video is full of dreamy weirdness and oddity in many amazing ways, making it a signature of recent YG groups music videos. It is more like a continuation of BIGBANG’s “Bae Bae” where we see the members being wacky, or should I say, Dumb & Dumber in their own ways.

Next stop is their other music video, “What’s Wrong?” where some of my friends told me it has a BIGBANG kind of feel into it. The moment I started playing it until it finished, it does have that same BIGBANG feels, but heck, they both are in the same agency by the way. It’s refreshing to hear the boys actually doing some experimenting with their genres, but the tune though is really a happy-tripping type that makes you want to run around and go wild. The build-up of the song is normal, but I expected it to be another anthem liked song, and so it did.
Obvious from the music video are a lot of colors, boys versus girls placards and streamers, masked girls and boys, and somehow another version of ‘Fantastic Baby’ by BIGBANG, whereas the setting maybe in another city. But what made me serious is that, who is behind that Krunk mascot? What’s with those huge hands?

These two music videos were pre-Christmas present by iKON as part of their comeback before the end of year 2015. They have been a hot-topic for the year 2015, and proved their detractors and supporters what they are really made off before their actual debut. They may have started with a rather weak start, but definitely, their songs and experiments are little by little doing good, giving them the title Best Rookie of 2015 in various award giving ceremonies.
